PRINCE Harry's ghost-writer JR Moehringer has shrugged off criticism that Spare contains factual errors.

One of the biggest is Harry claiming he got an Xbox for his 13th birthday in 1997 four years before the console’s release.

Moehringer tweeted a quote from Mary Karr’s The Art of Memoir: “The line between memory and fact is blurry, between interpretation and fact.

"There are inadvertent mistakes of those kinds out the wazoo.”

He also posted two quotations from Spare attributed to Harry.

One said: “Whatever the cause, my memory is my memory… there’s just as much truth in what I remember and how I remember it as there is in so-called objective facts.”

And Moehringer quoted an excerpt from the book in which Harry admits he does not know if the Xbox story is true — rather it could be an anecdote repeatedly told to him.

Harry goes on to suggest his mother’s death messed with his memory.

The Duke said: “I tore at the wrapping paper, the ribbon. I peered inside… It was an Xbox. I was pleased. I loved video games.

"That’s the story, anyway. It’s appeared in many accounts of my life, as gospel, and I have no idea if it’s true.

"Pa said Mummy hurt her head, but perhaps I was the one with brain damage?”
