The strange intruder made his way into the home of Tom and Isabella Ridgewell, in Tweed Heads, New South Wales.

The couple and their six-month-old baby, Amora, were all fast asleep when the bizarre break-in took place on Friday night.

Scary CCTV footage shows the man lurking through the Ridgewell family home before he stepped into the couple's bedroom.

There, he stood over baby Amora's cot and watched her sleep while her parents were tucked up in bed, completely unaware of what was happening in their room.

He then headed to the kitchen and grabbed himself a beer and a block of parmesan cheese before settling on the couch.

The footage showed the intruder getting comfortable under a blanket as the family dog watched from the room next door.

When he returned to the family bedroom for a second time, he was caught by Tom, who chased him off the property with a baseball bat that he handily kept next to his bed.

The dad-of-one said there was every opportunity for the bloke to steal something, but he bizarrely took nothing.

"He just lay down on the sofa, was tucking himself in, making himself comfortable," Tom told 9News.

"He's had half a block of parmesan cheese and just left it, helped himself to a beer.

"It was almost like he was at home, how he was acting".

Reflecting on the terrifying situation, the shocked parents said they have no idea how the man could have entered their home.

Tom revealed that the following morning, a trail of grass prints could be seen on their bedroom floor leading up to the baby's bassinet.

The block of cheese was also left half bitten on top of a fridge following the break-in.

But even after the intruder was confronted by the dad, Tom said he appeared to be unbothered as he was seen casually walking away from the house.

When the couple called the police, they were told that they had received reports of a "delusional man" in the area who matched their intruder's description.

Local cops said they are now investigating the unusual case.

In a statement to 9News, cops said they had been sent to the area as they try to piece together the identity of the mystery man.
