A flight attendant has urged passengers to "never, ever, ever, ever use or put anything" in a certain part of the plane seat.
Posting to a Reddit forum titled 'Flight attendants of Reddit, what are some disturbing secrets that passengers should know?', the user named HausofDarling said the seat pocket on a commercial jet was a place best avoided at all costs.
When you've got through the throng of an airport and are ready to board a plane, it's tempting to unload all of your things as quickly as simply as possible, the Daily Express reports.
The flight attendant suggested you should think twice about storing your phone, books or snacks in the seat pocket in front.
They explained: "I always recommend you never, ever, ever, ever use or put anything in the seat pocket. They are cleared of rubbish but are never 'cleaned'.
'My wife wants to change our four-year-old's name but I think it is too late'"I have pulled out and seen all sorts been pulled out from there. Dirty tissues, sick bags, knickers, socks, gum, half sucked sweets, apple cores, and then next flight you go and put your phone, laptop or iPad in there."
The flight attendant's claims were also backed up by another anonymous crew member who shared tales of some of the worst things they had found in seat pockets.
They said: “I once discovered vomit outside of the paper bag which spilled through the seat pocket. It was absolutely awful, but what can you do?”
It's not the first time that flight attendants have spilled their secrets.
One recently warned passengers to avoid wearing shorts during flights - for a pretty disgusting reason.
According to cabin crew member Tommy Cimato, putting on a pair of shorts before boarding a flight guarantees you little more than a one-way ticket to bacteria-ville.
He explained: "Do not fall asleep or lean your head on the window. You are not the only one that has done that and you don't know how many people or children have wiped their hands or other things all over the window.
"It's the same thing as the window, you never know how clean it's going to be, so if you have pants, you're going to have less germs."
By wearing long trousers, passengers will avoid direct contact with the seat and will be more protected against germs on the plane, the flight attendant reasons.
As legs and skin more generally are good at refusing entry to bacteria and germs, sitting on something invisibly dirty is only a problem if you then somehow transfer the muck into your mouth.
'I hate how unique my baby's name is - I'm desperate for more parents to use it'The bathroom is considered one of the dirtiest spots on the aircraft, and the crew member urged holidaymakers to avoid touching the flush button.
He said: "Do not ever touch the flush button with your bare hands. It's honestly just super unsanitary and pretty gross, so when you flush, use a napkin or tissue that's in the lavatory."
