But the comedy drama series has now come to an end after six years and its fans are gutted.

The show, which stars Rachel Brosnahan, 32, as the eponymous character of Miriam 'Midge Maisel, revolves around a female Jewish comic trying to make it in 1960's New York.

Since the series made its debut in March 2017, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel has received critical acclaim and dozens of awards to boot.

It also made household names out of the likes of Tony Shalhoub and Alex Borstein whilst established stars like Jane Lynch, Sterling K. Brown, Wanda Sykes and Academy Award nominated actress Stephanie Hsu were cast in significant roles.

Despite much success, in 2022 Amazon Prime announced that the show would not be renewed past the fifth season.

Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino previously told TVLine: "We don't want to overstay our welcome. Midge has a journey she has to take.

"We know emotionally where we want to end her and at what point we want to cut it off."

And as the last-ever episode was dropped on the streaming service, devoted fans took to social media as they paid tribute to the beloved series.

One fan exclaimed: "I just finished it and I cry because I too was happy and proud of Midge and seeing Lenny one last time was amazing thank you so much for this amazing show I’ll going to miss it terribly !!!"

A second fumed: "There is absolutely no reason to end this show. I rebuke this cancellation."
