A CREEPY abandoned UK train station could now be turned into a holiday park, plans reveal.

The derelict building dating back to 1881, has sat crumbling for five decades, but now nearly 30 mobile homes could re-energise the Romney Road, Lydd, Kent site.

Youths and vandals regularly target the empty site, but now a new lease of life could be breathed into the area.

Plans showed a possible 20 twin caravans and six singles, to occupy the burned down railway station.

Each home will have its own parking space and more will be available for visitors outside the former station building.

Renovations could also see homes for the potential future site owner and manager, as reported by KentOnline.

The application, submitted to Folkestone & Hythe District Council (FHDC), by Keith Forward, read: “Residential park homes are some of the most affordable dwellings available, with costs significantly lower than purchasing an equivalently sized bricks-and-mortar house.

“Park homes are popular with young people entering the housing market, so are a form of starter home for many."

Another potential purpose could be for people seeking to downsize in their later years.

With the average cost of one residential caravan listed as just under £200,00, this holiday park would offer a home at £100,000 below the average property in Lydd.

After the original railway was ravaged by flames, the Lydd Station Heritage Group has been desperate to bring it back to its former glory.

Jay Dee, who runs the group’s page on Facebook, said: “Our aim is to save the site.

“Romney Marsh has limited transport links and without a car, public transport is inadequate.

“Commuters from Lydd to Ashford, London, or other places outside the Marsh presently have two main options of driving to Ashford or Appledore for their nearest railway station or face a long drive.

“Lydd station sits there being completely overlooked and tragically wasted. The site has so much potential.”

An approval or rejection to the new plans should be made within the next three months.

This comes as one couple, who were sick of paying rent, have revealed how they bought an old mobile home for £4,000 and now live mortgage-free.

Plus, a single mum who says living in a mobile home full-time is super fun and way cheaper than renting.
