BENIDORM is one of the most popular foreign holiday destinations for Brits because of its warm weather and cheap booze.

However, for those unable to get across to Spain for a visit, there's a bar in the UK that could provide them with a similar experience.

A Benidorm-themed bar and cabaret lounge in Whitby, Yorkshire, was inspired by the sitcom based on the favourite holiday resort.

It was opened last summer by actor Tim Healy, who played Les/Lesley Conroy in the ITV show and is called Metunes.

The name comes from its former identity, The Met bar and lounge, and Neptunes - the bar also from the show.

An important piece of Neptune's can be seen in Metunes in the form of Craig Williams, who was one of the bar's singers.

He is the in-house entertainer in Whitby and can be seen running various cabaret events.

He told the BBC: "Whoever you ask, they've heard of Benidorm and the TV show was a failure of its own success because in a round about way it did encourage the wrong type of people after it was shown.

"Away went the families and in came the stag and hen parties, which is obviously a good thing financially for the bars, but also the cabaret scene dropped off a little bit.

"People miss the cabarets and the variety - this is why we've done what we've done here in Whitby."

The bar promises that Craig will "make your night at Metunes a truly memorable one".

Upon opening the bar, the owners said it would bring "a little taste of Benidorm here in Whitby".

Thursdays offer Benidorm Bingo, followed by karaoke, while Fridays have both karaoke and a disco.

Saturday is show time at Metunes, with a cabaret, also followed by a disco, before more bingo another cabaret and live music on Sunday lunchtime.

The bar has received some positive reviews since its re-branding, with one writing on Facebook: "Lovely staff and beer - very welcoming."

Another added: "Awesome friendly place with alternative events on and things for everyone. Highly recommended."

Meanwhile, this Benidorm expert revealed how your partying can land you with a £1,000 fine on holiday.

And Brits have been offered crazy cheap all-inclusive two-week holidays in Benidorm over Christmas and New Year.
