TOTTENHAM are clear favourites to sign Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte.

That's according to bookmakers Betfair, who've installed Spurs as 2/1 frontrunners to clinch his signature before the transfer window closes in September.

Tottenham are hard at work revamping their squad for the 2023-24 campaign with James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Guglielmo Vicario already through the door on permanent deals.

But manager Ange Postecoglou is now looking to bolster his defensive unit, and Laporte is reportedly a key target.

But there's no shortage of competition for his services with Mundo Deportivo claiming that Arsenal are ready to enter the contest.

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus have both made the switch from Manchester City to Arsenal, and manager Mikel Arteta the 29-year-old could be the next in line.

However, bookmakers Betfair don't think it's a likely scenario having priced Arsenal at 22/1 to complete a deal for the Spain international.

Instead, Barcelona are second-favourites at 5/1, narrowly ahead of 11/2 Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, who've just signed Milan Skriniar on a free transfer.

Athletic Bilbao and Aston Villa follow at 7/1 and 10/1 respectively, while Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich are available at 12/1.

Laporte faces an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium.

The defender has won FIVE Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three Carabao Cups and the Champions League during his six-season stay in Manchester.

But he was firmly on the fringes during the treble-winning campaign, coming off the bench in the FA Cup final and was an unused substitute during the Champions League final in Istanbul.

The centre-back has two years left on his City deal, but played less than 1,000 Premier League minutes last season and could well be offloaded if Pep Guardiola signs Josko Gvardiol.
