What happened to Shahzada and Suleman Dawood?
Shahzada and his son Suleman were part of the five member crew on the small sub heading to the wreck of the Titanic.
The father and son set off with Hamish Harding, Stockton Rush and Paul-Henry Nargeolet on the small sub, named Titan, on Sunday, June 18, 2023.
Shahzada's sister Azmeh Dawood revealed that the teenager was "terrified" of going on the trip.
The Titan lost contact with mothership Polar Prince just one hour and 45 minutes into the expedition.
Rescue crews, including two remote-operated vehicles (ROVs), were dispatched to search the ocean surface and depths in the area of the Titanic wreckage.
Despite reports of banging on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, debris was discovered two days later.
On Thursday, June 22, OceanGate Expeditions said in a statement that it believed the five members on board the submersible were believed to be dead.
The company said: “We now believe that our CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, have sadly been lost."
Rear Admiral John Mauger told a press conference: "This was a catastrophic implosion of the vessel which would have generated a significant broadband sound down there that the sonar buoys would have picked up,"
The US Coast Guard said debris was found on the ocean floor which was "consistent with the catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber".
They said they would continue to investigate the scene.
