A POPULAR channel on Sky and Virgin Media will close down permanently tonight - and fans are not impressed.

24 years after launching in the UK and Ireland, TCM Movies is bidding farewell on this side of the pond for good.

It means the time shift +1 channel is going too.

TCM was one of the few movie channels available free on satellite and cable in the earlier years.

The schedule mostly consisted of classic films and westerns.

"I'm not very happy about that," one user said on Twitter.

"I watch several westerns a week on that channel!"

Another commented: "Just found out #TCM UK is closing down. Sad to see it go."

A third added: "My dad is in a period of mourning because the TCM channel is closing down in the UK."

The channel has been broadcasting on channel 315 on Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream.

And channel 415 on Virgin Media.

But on July 6 the plug will be pulled forever.

Owner Warner Bros. Discovery has said its other channel Quest will now air some classic movies in TCM's place, according to Cord Busters.

Quest is also available on Freeview, meaning more people will be able to access movies previously on TCM only.

"Thank you for joining us on our journey and for loving classic movies just as much as we do," TCM said in a farewell video.
