TOTTENHAM have made contact with Chelsea over the possibility of signing defender Trevoh Chalobah on loan, according to reports.

The centre-back, 24, had been heavily linked with a deadline day move to Nottingham Forest - after Bayern Munich's bid to sign him fell apart.

But Spurs are now attempting to hijack their target with just hours left of the transfer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have approached their London rivals about a loan deal.

But there are stumbling blocks in the way of a move being completed.

Chelsea are unlikely to let Chalobah leave to a direct Premier League rival.

And the "formula of the deal" is also understood to be a complicated one.

Forest are working on securing a permanent transfer for the man who has received three caps for England's U21s.

But there is "no green light" from Chalobah when it comes to joining Steve Cooper's men at the City Ground.

Chalobah started 18 Premier League games for Chelsea last season.

But he is yet to feature under Mauricio Pochettino and appears to be well down the pecking order.

The Blues have centre-backs such as Thiago Silva. Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi ahead of him.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are looking to add a second deadline day signing after they agreed a £45million fee with Nottingham Forest for Brennan Johnson.
