Two visitors to Edinburgh were left in hysterics after flinging open their hotel room curtains to take in the views - and being greated with a pane of frosted glass.

Catherine Round and her friend Jane had travelled up to the Scottish capital to see The Killers and decided to book into a twin room at the Premier Inn on Princes Street.

They opted for a room with a view to make the most of Edinburgh's sweeping historical vistas, but unfortunately such sights had to be left to their imagination, EdinburghLive reported.

Catherine explained: "We were there on Tuesday for the Killers concert, just overnight from Newcastle. It was fantastic. We thought it was hilarious and as I am in the 'view from your window' group, decided to post it on there I didn't imagine it would get such a reaction."

After posting it on the popular Facebook group, the photo went viral, notching up 4.7k likes. She added: "Someone more nosey than us had picked off the corner (of the film) so we saw what was behind."

Luckily for the duo, the film wasn't hiding a spectacular view of the castle or down the Royal Mile, but instead of a block of grey metal generators at the back. Catherine he said: "I would say the room was great despite the 'view'!"

Premier Inn has been contacted for comment.

It's not the first time that tourists have been left disappointed in the city's hotels. One couple hit out at a different hotel earlier this year after they were given a room overlooking a building site, claiming construction work started as early as 6.45am and was just metres from their window.

Taking to Tripadvisor, the disgruntled customers said that they were originally impressed by the hotel, the level of service and the size of their room. Unfortunately, when they looked out of their window, they were unimpressed reports EdinburghLive.
Alongside a photo of the building site they explained: "Not just overlooking a building site, but an active participant in the building programme. The crane in the photo started work at 6.45am, less than 10 metres from our window.

Responding almost immediately, the hotel said: "It's wonderful to hear that you had a positive encounter with our front desk team, finding their welcoming attitude and the offer of a glass of Prosecco upon arrival to be a nice touch.

"Our staff's helpfulness and attentiveness are key priorities for us, and we're glad to hear that they left a positive impression on you. We're also pleased that your initial impression of the room was positive, with its perceived spaciousness. We'll certainly take note of your suggestion regarding adding a couple of easy chairs to the room, as guest comfort is very important to us.

"I am, however, truly sorry to hear that certain aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. Please accept my sincerest apologies for any inconveniences or discomfort you experienced during your time with us. Rest assured, your concerns will be conveyed to our management team. They will thoroughly assess the issues you've raised and explore avenues for improvements."
