Goalkeeper Jose Sa was then powerless to deny the Japan international as he slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Reacting to the goal on social media, Lineker tweeted: "Stunning individual goal from Mitoma. A thing of beauty.

"Apparently he did a thesis for his degree on dribbling. Certainly paid off today."

Another fan also added: "Mitoma is absolutely ridiculous."

A third supporter also commented: "Goal of the year?"

Meanwhile, one more wrote: "That was Maradona-esque from Mitoma."

After grabbing an assist against Luton last week, the goal is Mitoma's first of the new season.

He was a breakthrough star for the Seagulls last season as they qualified for Europe for the first time.
