CELEBRITY MasterChef has come under fire once again after one of the contestants dished up a baked potato.

Black Eyed Peas rapper APL.DE.AP presented judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode with the basic dish after being told to cook something with goats' cheese.

At first, APL.DE.APP - real name Allan Pineda Lindo - mistook the lump of cheese for a block of butter.

He then baked a potato and 'stuffed' it with his special ingredient, bacon and mushroom.

Incredibly, APL was met with positive comments from Gregg and John and ended up sailing through to the next round later in the competition.

Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell, however, was sent home.

Fans have since reacted with anger after APL was not given the boot for cooking a baked potato on MasterChef.

One ranted on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Dianne out but Apl still in with a dry jacket potato."

Another added: "What? Dianne goes.. ridiculous Apple cooked a baked potato in the first round [sic]."

A third exclaimed: "A baked potato? He’s cooked a baked potato?"

And someone else raged: "How mini will-i-am got through after making a jacket potato is beyond me lol."

Despite the viewer backlash, Gregg and John managed to find high praise fo 48-year-old APL's baked potato.

Gregg told the Filipino-American rapper, who is partially blind: "Your choice of the ingredients is absolutely sound.

"That sticky goats' cheese is tangy, it's sour and then with salty bacon, it's a marriage made in heaven."

John added: "What you've got is great textures as well as great flavour.

"The outside, that skin you've got from the potato is really crispy and it's slightly salty too, which is good.

"On top of that you've got crispy bacon, in between that is fluffy potato and that creaminess of the cheese. And the mushrooms have got a slight bit of crunch to them. I like it a lot."

In the next stage of Tuesday night's show, the contestants - APL, Dianne, Emmerdale's Amy Walsh, Love Island's Luca Bish and actor Michael Praed - were told to make a two-course 'dinner party' meal.

This time, APL served up a chicken and potato adobo with rice and spring onion garnish. His dessert was churros and a chocolate and coffee dip.

Despite his baked potato faux pas, his second attempt seemed to impress the judges.

In comparison, Dianne's offerings were sadly not enough to keep her in the competition.

In the first stage, she had whipped up mushroom soup with a mushroom bruschetta on the side.

Dianne then cooked pan-seared salmon on carrot, courgette and beetroot noodles, with a cream-based beurre blanc for her dinner party dinner.

Her dessert was strawberry shortcake, Chantilly cream and a strawberry compote.

After being given the boot, Dianne said: "I feel gutted to be the first one to go home.

"I think eliminations get to me. I am used to them but they never get easier."
