ABERDEEN'S hunt for Jim Goodwin's replacement has taken a step on the Wild side.

Barry Robson stepped into the void left by Jim Goodwin following the 6-0 drubbing by Hibs and 1-0 embarrassment in Darvel, and he led the Reds to a vital win over Motherwell at the weekend.

But the Dons board are looking at a long-term replacement with a list of candidates to take over the Pittodrie club.

Polish boss Czeslaw Michniewicz was revealed to be in talks with the club by his SON last week, while former Manchester United ace Dwight Yorke has also been linked with the post.

And reports now say former Sheffield United and Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder has been contacted as Dave Cormack seeks a new boss.

Last week The Scottish Sun revealed Wilder was a serious contender for the hotseat in the north-east.

We told how Pittodrie chiefs had formulated their shortlist of potential replacements for Goodwin - who lasted less than a year in the role - and the Englishman featured heavily, as did ex-Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley.

The Daily Record now reports that Wilder has been approached among the initial candidates for the role.

Former Falkirk and Hibs boss John Hughes revealed he had applied for the position, while Hughes' former Bairns maverick Russell Latapy adds a Scottish-link to the glamour option of Champions League winner Yorke.

Meanwhile Leeds United legend Paul Robinson has urged his former club to move for Ange Postecoglou after Jesse Marsch was sacked at Elland Road.

He said: “I know there has been talk of Carlos Corberan at West Brom, but I personally would love to see Postecoglou come down from Celtic.

“They have to get somebody who hits the ground running.

“People talk about someone who knows the league inside out and know the players, but for me it has to be a man-manager.

“He’s got Harry Kewell as his assistant up there, so there is a  link already.

“I think it’s only going to be a matter of time before he does come to the Premier League and I’d love to see Leeds push the boat out and  go and get him now.”
