A train has caught fire at Leeds train station this morning, causing widespread disruption and chaos for morning commuters.

The fire initially caused all lines to be blocked from Leeds train station, but all lines have now been reopened. Northern does however warn that all lines previously affected might see delays and cancellations. Northern says that delays are expected until at least 10am.

A statement on their site says: "Any ticket restrictions have been lifted during this disruption. We apologise for the delay in these services and the additional time this may add to your journey today. Other places to get more information: For customers on station platforms, please listen for announcements or consult Customer Information Screens for up-to-date train running information."

One user on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, wrote: "There's been a fire on a train at Leeds train station, so don't bother using the trains this morning. Currently stopped on the line near Apperley Bridge."

A spokesperson for Northern said: "Some services are unable to run through Leeds station due to the electricity supply being switched off to the overhead power lines. All services through Leeds will be affected by delays or cancellations." Services to Carlisle, Morecambe, Lancaster, Skipton, Bradford, Ilkley and Doncaster are among those affected. Northern ticket holders have acceptance on: TransPennine Express, London North Eastern Railway, and CrossCountry services.

Another commuter said on X: "There's been a fire on a trans-Pennine train at the station which apparently has set off a system that turns off all the power at the station (so the conductor says). Currently waiting just outside Leeds to get a platform."
