Lowry jumped at the chance to get a dig in and hilariously commented: "Any pics from Rome???"

The American golfer replied: "Shane it’s been two weeks and was starting to forget……"

Lowry was a vital member of Luke Donald's team that prevailed at Marco Simone in Rome as he claimed 1.5 points during the 16.5 - 11.5 win in the Italian capital.

In the weeks after the triumphant win, the Offaly native has now reacted to being asked about becoming a future Ryder Cup captain.

The 2019 Open champion was speaking on US YouTube golf channel, 'Fore Play Golf.'

The "Fore Play" golf pod is a weekly podcast presented by Trent, Riggs, Frankie and golf journalist Dan Rapaport.

The popular channel which is part of Barstool Sports has amassed 364K subscribers.

World number 32 Lowry played in Jupiter, Florida on the 'The Side Gig' with Dan Rapaport.

When asked by Dan Rapaport about the 2027 Adare Manor Ryder Cup in Ireland, Lowry laughed as he confirmed he'd be too young to be captain in four year's time - he wants to play in it.

The 36-year-old said: "That's a huge goal of mine going forward.

"I'm too young to be captain though, aren't I.

"Forty, there's never been a 40-year-old captain."

Meanwhile, Lowry posted an emotional video (Ryder Cup Europe) of the him hugging and exchanging words with Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald after the victory.

The 2019 Open champion captioned it by saying: "Will be forever grateful for this man putting his faith in me and allowing me to fulfil one of my biggest dreams."

Donald's pick was justified as it was a week to remember for the popular Irish star as he completed a stunning comeback in the final day's singles as Europe claimed victory.

Despite falling three shots down to Jordan Spieth, Lowry showed his immense resolve to bounce-back and secure half a point for Europe at a high pressure stage on the Sunday.
