A mum whose baby suffers eczema so severely that it would make her bleed has praised a "cure" which she found on TikTok.

Leigha Sorrell, 24, turned to the social media platform for help when her little girl, Delilah, started scratching her sore skin non-stop and had allergic reactions to eczema creams that would "burn" her skin. The poor tot, now 10 months old, was in so much discomfort that she would scratch until she bled, leading Leigha to co-sleep with her for months.

As Delilah's condition worsened, the dry and sore patches of eczema spread across her face, chest, arms, and the back of her legs. But thanks to the advice of her 10,000 followers, Leigha discovered a high street solution called Balmonds, which has left her "over the moon".

She said: "As her mum, I just wished it was me instead of her, she's such a happy baby and her temperament didn't change but we could see it was affecting her by her scratching all the time and making herself bleed. Seeing the difference in her skin now is incredible, she still has some eczema in the creases of her wrists but it's manageable and she's no longer in pain."

Delilah was two months old when Leigha first noticed what looked like a rash on her baby's belly. Booking a doctor's appointment, she found out that the red patches of skin were actually eczema and Delilah was prescribed steroid cream.

Leigha said: "We hoped it would be a simple solution but things got really bad. The eczema was weeping constantly and it was so sore which was horrible for her. I worried about Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW) so I started trying another cream that the doctors said would be good for skin but Delilah was allergic to it."

Following her allergic reaction, Leigha said her baby's skin became "10 times worse", with sore patches of dry and red skin spreading across her face, on her chest, down her arms and on the back of her legs. Trying alternative products and creams gave Delilah more painful allergic reactions that would "burn" her skin and result in the eczema spreading further around her body.

Leigha continued: "We tried every cream we could find, we've gone through so many and she would just have an allergic reaction that would literally burn her skin. It would cause flare ups and make her eczema even worse."

Things took a turn for the worse in June when Delilah woke up with what Leigha described as "the worst flare up" the little one had ever experienced. The then six-month-old had painful red patches all over her body and Leigha said she felt "helpless".

She said: "As a mum, you just want to take that pain away from her, I was trying everything to find a solution but I just didn't know what to do. Nothing worked, everything we tried made her skin worse and now she was completely covered in what looked like a huge rash all over her body."

At the height of of Delilah's skin problems, Leigha would sleep next to her to prevent her from scratching in the night and used scratch mitts to stop her baby from making herself bleed. Not knowing what else to do, Leigha started to document Delilah's journey on TikTok by making videos asking for advice from people with similar experiences.

Within a month of posting updates about her baby's eczema, Leigha said she had views from "thousands of people" and many comments from others who had gone through similar issues. She said: "I had a lot of people recommending different things to me and everyone was saying to not use steroids, which we stopped using. Someone recommended trying Balmonds and it was around the time Delilah's skin was really bad."

As other creams had given her little girl a painful allergic reaction, Leigha admitted that she did not have "much hope" that the remedies suggested by TikTok viewers would help. Buying the Balmonds cream in July, she decided to "give it a go" and was shocked to discover that Delilah was not allergic to the product.

She said: "I just needed to try anything I could but I didn't think it would work because nothing else had. We tried it on her skin and her eczema cleared up in two days. It hasn't been back since which is crazy considering how bad her skin was before. She still gets the odd patches of dry skin in the creases on her wrist but it's manageable and I use the cream on her every day. The difference in her skin is like night and day."

Now, Leigha has said she is "over the moon" with how much better Delilah's condition is as she was concerned that it was restricting her development. She added: "She's never been an unhappy baby but I felt like I was restricting her life because I had to put scratch mitts on her because she would constantly be scratching."

"The mitts are meant to be for newborns but she was six months old and wearing them because otherwise she would make herself bleed. I worried this would affect her development because she wasn't learning to grab things or reach out for stuff but it was something I had to do to stop her from bleeding and possibly getting her cuts infected.

"But she's back to normal now and is doing well, which is all I can ask for. People don't realise how difficult it is, I constantly worry that if I use a certain type of washing powder or try her with a new food that it's going to somehow cause a flare up with her skin, but I'm just so glad that she is no longer in constant pain."
