GREGGS fans can usher in 2023 with a number of new vegan items.

There's 11 items in total on the menu including the classic vegan sausage roll and glazed ring doughnut.

But it's the first time three items have been launched nationwide after being sold regionally.

They are a cajun chicken-free roll, southern fried chicken-free baguette and chicken-free goujons.

Customers looking to get their spud fix can continue to buy hash browns too.

Yesterday, we revealed the top supermarket hash browns if you're looking to get your fix at home.

It comes as McDonald's added potato waffles to its breakfast menu for the first time ever last October too.

Retailers often cash in on the popularity of vegan food in January as shoppers look to clean up their diets with a New Year health kick.

For example, Greggs' hugely successful vegan sausage roll was first launched in January 2019.

The bakery chain saw sales rise by 14.7% in the first six months of the same year, crediting the vegan version of its popular treat for the increase.

It looks like Greggs is trying to recreate some of that magic this January with the new menu additions.

Greggs isn't the only restaurant chain trying to capitalise.

McDonald's already has a number of vegan options on its menu, including the McPlant burger.

But vegan-friendly products haven't always proven successful at retailers.

Pret a Manger announced plans to close almost all of its meat-free branches following a dip in sales.
