Everybody loves a food hack but one online cook has caused controversy over her unusual trick for cooking crispy chicken drumsticks. TikToker Tammylouiseee posted a five-minute video, with the heading 'This is genius!', showing how she creates the poultry dish - with the help of a couple potato chip packets. At the beginning she is seen splitting open a Lays (Walkers) party size bag of both barbeque and sour cream and onion flavours with a knife.
She then squirts a dollop of barbeque sauce in the former and scoops some sour cream dip in the latter before adding a couple of eggs to each bag. Tammy then adds a handful of chicken drumsticks inside the bags and mixes and presses down on the packets to crush all the ingredients.
The drumsticks are taken out and placed carefully inside a foil baking tray before being seasoned. She is heard saying: "OK, this is my secret to a delicious, crusted chicken. Say bye bye to breadcrumbs and hello to barbeque chips as your crust.
"I only use two eggs per chicken. And then I used barbeque chips and sour cream and onion chips but you can really use any flavour you want." She goes on to say that it will be "so good" when you take the mixture out of the oven.
After the chicken has been in the oven, she inspects each drumstick and exclaims: "Oh my gosh! Look at at that delicious piece of crust. Are you telling me that if you ordered this at a restaurant that you wouldn't be like 'wow, that's amazing, I'm so pleased!'"
Make 2023 your most productive year yet by using the 'intention' methodThe TikkTok cook then cuts open one of the drumsticks for a "proper look" and informs viewers that she used her "temperature read of 168, so we're all good!" The advised not to use frozen chicken as the key to ensuring the meat cooks well.
Tammy's method provoked plenty of response online with the video receiving more than 38,000 likes and 3,100 replies. One user said: "We don't have the same definition of Genius," while someone else advised: "If you’re gonna do this, just take the chips out and blend or crush before. You will get a better texture."
Many users were concerned that she had not washed the chicken beforehand. One person wrote: "After the chicken was put in the bag without washing I was done," and another said: "What? Should you wash the chicken with salt and rinse it before this process! Oh no."
However, Tammy received plenty of support for her creative cooking. One user said: "Lays is expensive.. But I love your chicken yummy," and another admitted: "This actually looks good. Not going to lie."
