James Arthur has revealed he was rushed to hospital "in agony" after the Mirror's Pride of Britain Awards last week.

The X Factor winner, 35, performed his new single Just Us at the star-studded bash in London, which celebrated the nation's unsung heroes. However, he had to make a swift exit from the glitzy ceremony at the Grosvenor Hotel after suffering from an 'extremely painful' kidney stone.

Opening up about the ordeal to Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston on Heart Breakfast, James said he initially felt a twang in his "crown jewell," sharing: "It started just before I hit the red carpet, I was all suited and booted, I started to feel this pain in my left…crown jewel shall I say. What have I done here? When putting my trousers on…have I caught myself?"

Explaining the pain got "progressively worse," James said he was "rolling around the floor in agony" in his dressing room. He continued: "I loaded up on paracetamol and I can't go home at this point. I've got to do this performance. I was in 10/10 pain."

Thanking Amanda for complimenting him on his performance despite his health issues, James revealed he went straight to A&E, sharing: "I've got this guy prodding around my bits. They did a scan, found a kidney stone, so I've been on heavy painkillers all week. I get the operation to remove it tomorrow. It added a bit to that performance."

James shot to fame when he was crowned victorious in the 2012 X Factor final going on to release four studio albums, thirty-four singles and seventeen music videos. But fame wasn't all it was cracked up to be for the singer, who admitted it was the 'best and worst' experience of his life.

Appearing on This Morning in August, James opened up on what became a 'pressure pot' after previously admitting he fought a long battle with depression in the past. Watching clip of when himself winning the ITV talent show, the singer admitted he found it 'triggering' to watch.

James explained: "It was the best and worst experience of my life. It was a pressure pot. I struggled in the aftermath. When I see that... it's allowed me this incredible career. But it was traumatic too."

Despite his bitter sweet experience with the music industry, the star delighted fans when he confirmed he will be performing eight UK shows as part of his Bitter Sweet Love world tour. Fans of the Impossible singer will be able to see James at venues in Birmingham, Sheffield, Newcastle, Hull, Glasgow, Manchester and London, with the tour kicking off in Bournemouth on March 5, 2024.
