A MAN who owns the UK's most haunted pub where "great and utter evil" lurks says ghost punters are regularly seen smoking pipes.
Jason Hawkins, 52, has come face-to-face with unexplainable happenings during his 15 years running the Three Tuns, in York.
The landlord recalled many nights at his 18th century boozer where doors slammed on their own and he even watched equipment move around.
Things are so spooky in the ancient building that Jason's staff have refused to work alone in case they run into any paranormal activity.
He told The Sun Online: “We’ve had a number of staff over the years who have refused to stay until the end of the night to lock up unless there’s someone with them.

“Nothing bad has ever happened - it’s all been harmless. But there are things that regularly happen here that you can’t seem to explain.
“We’ve had equipment move from one place to another, despite no-one having access.
“Stuff flies off the shelves all the time. We’ve got a video of a guy sat in the corner and his glass just flies across the table and onto the floor.
“The gents’ toilet door opens and closes on its own even though it’s really heavy.
“People often say they’ve caught a glimpse of a little old fella who sits in the corner, smoking a pipe.”
“I’ve been in here when the door’s opened on its own and it takes you aback a little because it’s unexplainable.”
The northern city is said to be one of the creepiest in the country with many locals having had a run-in with ghostly figures.
Other sinister spirits in York include the spectre of Roger de Clifford, who was hanged in 1322 and left in a cage outside for a year and a day.
Soldiers from centuries ago reported seeing Roger outside the city’s Clifford’s Tower - and people still do today.
York Castle Museum, which in a former life used to house condemned criminals, ghostly children with shrill voices have been seen running around.

Abigail Telfer, 21, added: "York’s definitely got an eerie feel to it. It’s such an old city and so much has happened here over the years.
“There’s no way you’d find me alone in one of the haunted pubs.”
