His leg got stuck between the Ring post and steel steps after Escobar kicked the steps, jamming his leg.
However, according to reports from Haus of Wrestling, Mysterio has been working through a torn meniscus for about three months, and the WWE used this storyline to cover it up.
Mysterio is expected to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks and agreed to drop the WWE United States Championship to Logan Paul and participate in the Escobar angle before having surgery.
His last match was at WWE Crown Jewel, where he was defeated, with the WWE United States Championship going to Paul.
Wrestling fans filled Mysterio's comments section, with many excited to see his return from injury.
One said: "Get well soon. We look forward to hearing from you!"
Another stated: "Get well soon, and I hope you deliver the payback towards Santos."
A third declared: "Legend Ray, I hope your rehab goes very well. I am going to miss you while you are out."
And a fourth blamed Paul: "Logan almost hurt this man multiple times."
