TOMATO ketchup is often something many people are particular about.

As Brits, we do love our chips and a plate of fries must also be accompanied by a good dip.

When most people think about Ketchup Heinz is often the first brand to come to mind, however, the price of the cupboard essential has risen sharply over the past few years.

At the moment the cheapest bottle of Heinz ketchup on the market is in Asda, where a 460g squeezy bottle goes for £2.50.

Ocado also has the same bottle for £2.50 but that doesn’t take into consideration the cost of delivery.

But now shoppers believe they have found a cheaper and tastier alternative.

Budget supermarket Lidl is selling Batts Tomato ketchup for just 95p per 500g.

Shoppers are convinced you won’t even be able to tell the difference after making the swap in your weekly shop.

In the Extreme Couponing And Bargains UK group on Facebook, fans were singing the Lidl dupe's praises.

A happy shopper said: “Thanks to the person who posted ages ago about Lidl’s own tomato sauce as an alternative to Heinz (Tastes exactly the same but for 95p a bottle)."

One user claimed: “Tastes better than Heinz.”

“Been my all-time fave for over 12 years,” declared another.

“I love it,” said someone else.

Swapping to the Lidl alternative could save you on average £80 a year as the dupe costs less than five times the original.

Plus you’ll get an extra 40g in the Lidl bottle so it should last you a little longer, meaning you could cut down your weekly shop even more.

Remember you will need to head in-store for the Lidl ketchup as the supermarket doesn’t do deliveries.

If you a die-hard Heinz tomato ketchup make sure you shop around for the best price.

Some supermarkets may offer a loyal discount on the product, for example, the regular price for Heinz ketchup is £3.40 in Tesco but if you have a Clubcard you can get it for £3.

In other news, Heinz launched a brand new pasta sauce based on a classic condiment last month but it’s dividing fans.

Last month Heinz discontinued one of Brits’ favourite sauces & left shoppers fuming.

Heinz apologised to fuming Brits and confirmed a winter lunch staple will "disappear" for good.
