THIS is the world's most expensive luxury hearse, based on a £35,000 Rolls Royce.

The bizarre new vehicle has been unveiled by top Italian design firm Biemme Special Cars.

Biemme, which specialises in converting luxury cars, have grimly named the new model the Ghoster.

The morbid moniker comes from the fact that the chassis for the unique motor is a Rolls Royce Ghost model.

The company has previously transformed cars from Jaguar, Mercedes and Maserati.

Sticking with the design flair of its parent, the Ghoster has undergone relatively minimal modification.

Its wheelbase has been lengthened to support a coffin mount which has been added onto the rear by raising the roofline.

This continues the contrasting colour of the bonnet while the rest of the bodywork is jet black with chrome trim, giving it a striking appearance.

An illuminated deck has been added in the rear compartment to display the deceased in a tasteful but visible manner.

Likewise, the coffin is surrounded by a plush hand-stitched leather interior with a silk and wood finish.

At the front, it has enough space for a driver and three passengers to travel to a memorial in comfort and style.

It even still features the hidden umbrella holders beloved of Rolls Royce cars and useful if the weather on the day of the funeral is appropriately moody.

The Ghost is the third-cheapest car in the Rolls range at around £350,000 but this hearse is likely to be reserved for the uber-wealthy.

It is expected to cost around a whopping £750,000 post-modification, but the price is only available on request.

And it certainly has enough power to get you to the graveside in a jiffy, with the heft 570 horsepower V12 remaining unrestricted and still managed by an eight-speed gearbox.

It is not known how much the refurbishment affects the performance, but a new Ghost can go from 0 to 60mph in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph.

However, it is likely to spend most of its time in its new role travelling at a more mournful pace.

It comes after a luxury supercar worth more than £130,000 was written off after a devastating smash.

Meanwhile, an EV owner urged drivers to watch out for a little-known road trip problem.
