Emily Atack announces she is quitting social media to focus on 'actual real life'

Emily Atack has announced she's quitting social media to take some time to focus on "real life" after a "helluva year".

The Inbetweeners actress and TV personality turned 34 on Monday (December 18), and returned to Instagram the following day. Addressing her 1.9m followers, she shared a post to her Instagram Story. The message was typed over a photo of her sticking her tongue out, wearing a birthday tiara. Sweeping her blonde hair back in a sleek bun, she thanked people for wrote: "Thanks for the birthday love yesterday everybody.

"I've been quiet on here recently and focusing on actual real life, working hard and having some time away from social after a helluva year. But I'll be back properly soon. Hope you are all living your best hungover lives and getting ready for the family rows and deflated wobbly blow up beds."

She's been sharing posts to her Instagram Story, but her last grid post was in October, showing her holiday in Sicily.

Emily consistently has to deal with trolls on social media. She even made a BBC documentary looking at unsolicited harassment from men online, and the straight-talking star has no problem with outing anyone who sends abuse.

She recently hit out at a troll who accused her of attention seeking on a recent post. The star had posted a photo of herself after getting her done, wearing a pink crop top and high-waisted jeans. Showing of her blow-dry, she wrote: "Big and bouncy. So is the hair. Thank you gang."

Although she was inundated with compliments for the selfie, one vile troll took it up on themselves to blame Emily for inviting "perverted comments". They wrote: "And then you wonder why trolls pick you up, why would you say that if you don't like that sort of attention?"

Emily hit back at the comment, writing: "Even if I put no caption at all, it would still get perverted comments, so it just shows it has nothing to do with me or my choices. It is not my fault some men can't control themselves.

"Listen to what you are saying to me. You are saying I am the one who needs to change - change how I speak, change my sense of humour, maybe change how I dress, completely change how I am. But the people who send the abuse can carry on as they are? No fault lies with them at all. Just me. The person I have chosen to be. That is what you are saying by making those comments. Do you understanding that comments of yours are a huge part of the issue?"

She went on to share a comment with fans on her Story, adding: "I really struggle to understand how some people just don't get it. Then I'm slowly realising maybe it takes a deeper layer of intelligence than some people just don't have?"
