Who is England forward Lauren Hemp?

Lauren Hemp is an England and Manchester City forward who was born on August 7, 2000.

She grew up and grew up in North Walsham, Norfolk, and quickly became interested in football, playing for her local team, North Walsham Youth FC.

For the "Where Greatness Is Made" campaign, a bid to celebrate pioneers of women's football in England, a plaque was placed at the club for Lauren.

Hemp’s youth career started at Norwich City in 2008, where her sister Amy was also on the team. 

She went pro in 2016, at Bristol City. 

In the 2024 New Year’s Honours, Lauren was awarded an MBE for services to Association Football.

Lauren also appeared in Hollyoaks in 2022, playing a football coach.

Which teams has Lauren Hemp played for?

Hemp’s senior professional football debut for Bristol City came in 2016 — she scored Bristol’s third goal in a match against Watford in her first appearance. 

In 2017, she made her first FA Women's Cup appearance ultimately scoring two goals, helping her team beat Millwall Lionesses.

Overall, Hemp scored nine times in 24 appearances for the Vixens, and in 2018, was named the PFA Women's Young Player of the Year.

Hemp signed with Manchester City in 2018 and represented Great Britain at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics. 

As of 2023, Hemp has been in a relationship with fellow footballer, Sheffield United midfielder, Ashley Hodson.

When did Lauren Hemp make her debut for England?

The Man City forward was called up to the England U15 squad in 2015.

But Hemp made her senior team debut for England on October 8, 2019, as a substitute for Beth Mead in a friendly match against Portugal.

Hemp scored her first four goals for England in a record-breaking 20-0 win against Latvia in 2021. 

Hemp represented the national side at the UEFA's Women's Euro 2022 — and her corner allowed Chloe Kelly to score the winning goal.

Breaking with her usual position briefly, Hemp played as a striker for the Lionesses during a 2022 friendly against the US at Wembley.

Hemp scored within the first 10 minutes and in the end, England won 2–1.

She also helped the Lionesses reach their first-ever 2023 World Cup final — she scored the second goal and assisted for the third in England’s semi-final against hosts Australia, resulting in a 3–1 win for England.
