LEGENDARY Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale has tragically passed away at the age of 83.

Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale was the station's first female presenter, and went on to become its longest-serving host.
She helped launched the careers of many artists - including Talking Heads, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Clash and The Ramones.
Tragically, on January 12, 2024, a statement attributed to her family said she "passed away yesterday at her home in London following a short illness".

The statement read: ''Annie was a pioneer, trailblazer and an inspiration to many.
''Her impulse to share that enthusiasm with audiences remained undimmed after six decades of broadcasting on BBC TV and radio globally.
"Never underestimate the role model she became. Breaking down doors by refusing to bow down to sexual prejudice and male fear gave encouragement to generations of young women who, like Annie, only wanted to tell you about an amazing tune they had just heard.
"Watching Annie do this on television in the 1970s, most famously as a presenter on the BBC music show The Old Grey Whistle Test, or hearing her play the latest breakbeat techno on Radio One is testimony to someone who never stopped believing in the magic of rock 'n' roll."
They added that a celebration of her life would take place at a memorial service in the spring.
During her lifetime, Annie Nightingale was married twice.
Annie shared two children, Alex and Lucy, with her first husband Gordon Thomas.
However, the couple later divorced.
She was also married to Binky Baker, who has forged a career as an actor.
As an actor, Baker is known for his appearance in the 2000 crime and thriller film Gangster No. 1 - which chronicles the rise and fall of a prominent, and particularly ruthless English gangster.

Aside from his role in the crime film Gangster No.1, Binky Baker was known for starring in several other titles.
Other titles Baker has appeared in include the TV series London Burning (1988) - a drama following the lives of firefighters based at Blackwall Fire Station.
As well as this, Baker also starred in the television series On The Up (1990) - in which ''a self-made millionaire struggles his way through life, dealing with a snooty wife, troublesome daughter, opinionated mother and quirky domestic staff''.
