Barkley’s dazzling form for the Hatters has put him on the wanted list at Old Trafford as a surprise and cheap capture.

Barkley, 30, shot to fame with Everton as a teenager but flopped at Chelsea.

Yet he is bossing the Hatters midfield and is a big reason they are punching above their weight.

He helped Luton dominate the ball against United last week and went close to a late equaliser when he hit the bar with a header.

Barkley could leave Luton if they go down.

And despite his contract being complex there may be a way of signing him for a low fee.

The 33-time England international has bagged three goals and registered three assists in his 20 Premier League appearances for Luton this season.

United, who lost 2-1 to Fulham on Saturday, are looking to strengthen in midfield.
