Chase (@thatlawndude) shared the gardening advice in a viral TikTok video.

He neatly hacked off the top layer of his bush with an electric hedge trimmer.

The correct technique, he said, prevents the edges of the bush from aging badly.

"When trimming bushes, comb the clippings to the edge of the bush," he explained.

"This is so most of the clippings fall off the bush and do not turn brown later on."

As he worked, he maneuvered the electric hedge trimmer in a sweeping motion, moving it from the back of the bush towards the front.

The direction carried the clippings to the front, causing them to fall off the bush.

Not only does the trick help keep the bush healthy, but it also makes for easier clean-up.

Experts at Ace Tree Surgeons revealed many benefits to hedge trimming outside of pure aesthetic purposes.

One explained that a well-maintained hedge can prevent accidents and promote safety during harsh weather.

"When the weather particularly blows and the rain falls heavily, you’ll want to make sure your hedges and shrubs are properly trimmed," they said.

"By scheduling regular pruning, you can make sure that the risk of broken branches will be massively reduced. If you do not have your plants pruned, flying debris or [a] branch can certainly hit your car or home and potentially cause some serious damage.

"You lower the risks of flying debris when you keep your garden trimmed and well-maintained."

A regular cut can also keep unwanted pests out and promote growth.

"When a shrub or hedge is frequently pruned, its health automatically gets better," they said.

"By taking away the diseased and dead parts of a plant, insect infestation will be reduced and the spread of disease is lowered. If you do not take out the deadwood, either of these things can easily develop pretty easily."

"To keep your hedge healthy, it is important to provide regular trimming. Of course, this may sound counterproductive however it is actually the same advice that hairdressers give their clients!" they added.

"By providing frequent trimming, it encourages the hedge to encourage new growth and keeps the tree healthy and strong."

Bush owners were impressed by his technique and some were convinced to try it out themselves.

"How did I never know how satisfying this is?" asked one commenter.

"Why is this so satisfying to watch? I am getting a trimmer tomorrow," said another.
