Brianna, 16, was knifed 28 times by Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe, both 15 at the time, who were caged for life.

Esther said she felt “no resentment or anger” to Jenkinson’s mum Emma.

She said: “Both of us are mothers who are trying to navigate something nobody should ever have gone through.

“It was very emotional. We spoke about very personal things, and she was open with me and she was so respectful as well.

“I think her coming to see me shows great bravery.”

At the meeting in Warrington, Cheshire, they also discussed the Peace in Mind campaign Esther launched in Brianna’s memory to improve mental health awareness in schools.

Esther said since her daughter’s death she has been “overwhelmed” by the support her Peace in Mind campaign has received.

She added: “I could either take what’s happened and hide away . . . or I can try to take a more positive approach and actually make something good out of a horrific situation.”

She recently met Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology Michelle Donelan, to discuss it, having met Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer earlier in the month.

After meeting Emma, Esther added: “As a former teacher, Scarlett’s mum was really interested in the two Peace in Mind campaigns to get mindfulness training into schools through Mindfulness in Schools Project and better child safeguarding for social media and mobile phones.”
