DRIVERS have been urged to pick up one of eight ideal city cars for under £5,000 this year.
Experts from CarGurus shared their top picks for the best motors for the big smoke, including a "desirable, reliable and practical" Skoda.
Citroen C1
Starting off with one of the cheapest options on the list, the C1 can be picked up for as little as £2,000.
Examples from between 2014 and 2022 are the ones to look out for, as they provide the most bang for your buck.
Craig Thomas of CarGurus praised the car for its "sense of French flair with its design."

It also shares a platform with the famously reliable Toyota Aygo as well as another entry on Craig's list - the Peugeot 108.
Skoda Citigo
Craig lavished praise on the Citigo as a "capable, desirable, reliable and practical" motor.
Available in both a three-door and five-door layout, it also comes with a choice between manual and automatic transmission.
It is, though, on the higher end of the budget, with older models hovering between £4,000 and £5,000.
Seat Mii
The Mii shares the same platform as the Citigo, but brings a slightly different interior design.
It was singled out for its spacious, 238-litre boot in particular.
That can be extended further into the already roomy cabin by folding down the entire line of rear seats.
It's also a little cheaper than the Skoda, at around £2,500
Another car based on the spec used in the Citigo and Mii that also found a place on the list is the VW UP, which sits between its two cousins in price.
Fiat 500
Finally, Craig picked out a true classic of the city car genre in the form of the Fiat 500.

Any model after 2007, when it was relaunched, should provide pretty much the same "sense of fun" at a very reasonable price.
They can go as low as £2,000 and are also very cheap to run and insure, making them ideal first cars too.
