Gregg Wallace says he is trying to achieve the physique of a man four decades younger than he is - but admits he has suffered in the process.

In recent years, the 57-year-old father-of-three has astonished fans by dropping five stone and going from a portly TV cooking show judge to a muscular fitness fanatic. But it seems Gregg cannot get enough of getting in shape - and has vowed to get himself into the shop of a man in his 20s.

Gregg has often discussed the secrets to his incredible body transformation - explaining that he strikes a balance of exercising hard and eating healthily. But he has now confessed that going on too strict a diet can be more depressing than fulfilling while having strict fitness goals in mind. The Masterchef star - who has a young son named Sid who he welcomed in 2019 with third and current wife Anne-Marie Sterpini, 36 - says it is easy to lose weight in a quick amount of time, but keeping it off is the tricky part. He has, however, been keeping himself in fine form since dropping five stone after reaching 16st 7lb at his heaviest.

Speaking to The Sun in a new interview, the TV star said: "Now it's, 'How fit can I actually get? Can I actually have the body of a 20-year-old at 60?'. I've done everything. I've done fasting, no carbs, low fat. You name it, I tried it. And yes, you can lose weight short-term, but it's really uncomfortable and you won't keep it up because you're horribly hungry and miserable all the time."

In the past, doctors warned Gregg he was at increased risk of a fatal heart attack due to his weight. Opening up about his need to change his figure during an interview with Good Morning Britain previously, he said: “The doctor said you have huge cholesterol here, unless you do something you're going to have a heart attack.

“I went on a weight loss and fitness site and in there I tell you how I went from the guy on the left hand side of the screen [to the one on the right]. I'm 56 years old what do you think guys.” He has also waxed lyrical about the fact he shuns diet fads while trying to lose weight.

He said before: “Seriously for people I don't believe in diets, I don't believe in doing something you can't sustain, I don't believe in starving yourself three times a week. What I believe in is making positive steps in the right direction gradually, that way you move yourself into a healthy lifestyle. Listen to this carefully, you don't have to be uncomfortable and hungry to lose weight." He has revealed that the key to his own weight loss success has been a vigorous workout regime, as well as: “making a conscious decision to cut down on fried food, sugar and booze.”
