Jurgen Klopp wanted to go out on a high, but Liverpool’s season is coming undone.

Once in control of the Premier League title race with one trophy already in the bag, the Reds will have to defy the odds to avoid the Carabao Cup being the only piece of silverware that Klopp bows out with. Sunday’s shock 1-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace topped off a wretched eight days for Liverpool, having drawn at Manchester United the previous weekend and lost 3-0 against Atalanta in the Europa League on Thursday.

But it’s not just on the pitch where uncertainty is growing, as nearly three full months after Klopp stunningly announced his impending departure, the Reds haven’t chosen their new manager - and now there’s a new name in the mix.

Here’s a round-up of the latest news from Anfield.

Kovac a contender to replace Klopp

Former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac is surprisingly under consideration to replace Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season. Liverpool, who are yet to begin formal discussions with any of their candidates, are reportedly interested in the German-born ex-Croatia captain, who was sacked by Wolfsburg last month.

Kovac, 52, managed Bayern for 18 months until November 2019 and had another year-and-a-half at Monaco afterwards. Since leaving Wolfsburg, he’s turned his attention to the Premier League and his agents were recently in London sounding out opportunities.

Klopp set to be offered Germany job

The German FA want to hold talks with Jurgen Klopp about becoming manager of their national team after current boss Julian Nagelsmann became Bayern Munich’s No.1 target. Despite being sacked by Bayern just over a year ago, Naglesmann is being touted for a sensational return to Munich after Euro 2024 this summer.

That’d leave Germany without a manager and despite rejecting the DFB’s advances in the past, they plan to make Klopp another offer, according to reports from the continent. The Liverpool boss recently said when asked about his future plans: "At this moment I don’t plan a further career as a manager. Ask me in a year’s time, but now I don’t plan anything."

Robertson sends team-mates warning: "It’s impossible"

Andy Robertson knows that Liverpool can’t keep going behind in games if they want to win the Premier League title. The Reds are now third in the table with six games to go, having lost a top-flight match at Anfield for the first time since October 2022.

Speaking after the crushing defeat to Crystal Palace, Robertson vowed: "We can’t keep relying on our comebacks. We can’t, it’s impossible. You can’t keep doing it season after season, game after game after game."
