Newsboy's racing tips for Tuesday's four meetings, including Epsom Nap

Epsom racecourse hosts a six-race card on Tuesday with Newsboy's Nap, Champagne Piaff, running in the Weatherbys Global Stallions App Great Metropolitan Handicap at 3.55

CHAMPAGNE PIAFF (3.55) can be the toast of Epsom by winning the Weatherbys Global Stallions App Great Metropolitan Handicap over a mile and a half.

Now a six-year-old, the son of Le Havre has been lightly race since his juvenile days, when he won on his second racecourse visit at Salisbury.

As a three-year-old he won twice in handicaps, at Windsor and over this course and distance in the autumn, and ran well in better company when fourth behind Torcello at Goodwood.

My selection wasn’t then seen again until his return 30 months later at Bath 16 days ago, when running on well in the closing stages to finish third on heavy ground.

He is sure to come on a lot for that run and with trainer Gary Moore booking son Ryan for the ride, and being off the same mark as when he won over the Downs back in 2021, he looks set to run a big race.

DEFIANCE (2.45) is taken to win the listed Betfred Blue Riband Trial over a mile and a quarter.

The son of Camelot battled his way to victory by a short head on his debut at Sandown in August before Ralph Beckett took a big step up in class with him in the Group Two Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket.

A four-length sixth of the nine runners that day behind Ghostwriter, there is every reason to expect him to progress further.
