Ellie Goulding said over the weekend that she was "feeling sad as hell" but assured that "tomorrow will be better," making the remarks just weeks after announcing her separation.

It was announced last month that the singer-songwriter, 37, and her husband Caspar Jopling, 32, have separated. The former couple confirmed the news in respective statements that were shared with their followers on social media.

She has kept fans updated since then and took to Instagram on Sunday with post about her feelings, as reported by OK! magazine. The BRIT Award winner wrote: "Solidarity to anyone else feeling sad as hell today. Tomorrow will be better."

The post comes just weeks after Ellie and her husband Caspar announced their separation. There had been rumours that the pair, who are parents to son Arthur, two, together, had split up prior to the announcement last month.

Addressing the speculation, Ellie wrote in her statement last month that she had been separated from Caspar for "some time". She said that the former couple "remain the closest of friends" and have been "co-parenting" together.

She said: "In light of recent stories, I feel I have been left with no choice but to let you all know that Caspar and I privately separated some time ago. We remain the closest of friends and have been successfully co-parenting with our sons best interest at heart. We are committed to protecting our family privacy and thank people in advance for respecting our wishes - we won’t be commenting further. Thank you."

Art dealer Caspar issued a statement himself on the platform, writing at the time: "Hi people - hope you're having a good day. I feel (sadly) that I need to say something on mine and Ellie's current relationship.. that I hope more than anything will make any final tabloid speculation disappear.

"Ellie and I made the decision to separate some time ago. Our immediate family and close friends have known for some time - otherwise we chose to do what we could to keep this private. Ellie and I remain the closest of friends and, most importantly, 'co-parents' to the best kiddo in the world, Arthur. This is the last I want to say on this - and please ask that you respect mine and Ellie's privacy. Thanks a lot. Caspar."

Ellie and Caspar got married in 2019. The former couple are said to have met three years earlier at a dinner party. Guests at their wedding, which was held at York Minster four years ago, included Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom.

They weren't the only celebrity guests at the ceremony though. As reported at the time, some members of the Royal Family were also in attendance for the wedding, with Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, along with their mother Sarah Ferguson, also present for the nuptials between Ellie and Caspar.
