In last night's episode, Cat Deeley appeared in the skit, seeking 'revenge' on the duo by making them eat porridge with "fermented tofu sauce".

The hosts, dressed as monsters, are then seen feeding each other spoiled porridge as per Cat's instructions.

One user tweeted: "Why are you wasting perfectly good food, when there are many struggling to feed themselves and their families, disgusting #Shameful #itv #ofcom."

Another added: "Sorry, gone to far with wasting food, even if it's out of date. I wonder how many are watching this eating food from a food bank!!"

They later appeared in a supermarket for another segment and were seen again 'wasting' food as they threw it about the place.

The show hosted by Ant and Dec features games, comedy sketches, and celebrity guests.

The Sun has recently revealed that Girls Aloud will be making a TV appearance on the show after more than a decade of inaction.

For the final Saturday Night Take-away episode airing next month, Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts, and Nadine Coyle will take to the stage to perform.

A source said: “They have been holed up rehearsing and practising dance routines ahead of going back on the road, and this is a real coup for Ant & Dec’s show.

"The girls are going to be treated like royalty and producers know they will have amazing outfits planned for the evening.

“They go way back with Ant & Dec and know the lads well from their time on the showbiz circuit, so will be up for a laugh.

"The girls expect the lads to be their mischievous selves.”

On the series coming to a close, Ant said: "We love making Saturday Night Takeaway, but reaching the milestone of 20 series seemed like the perfect time to pause for a little while and catch our breath."

Dec added: "We still have a momentous 20th series to look forward to first so we will do our best to go out with a bang."
