A pizza restaurant was left baffled when they received a huge, expensive order - only to find out it was a cruel prank - but they turned it into an opportunity to help people struggling.

Aroma Pizza House in Golden Grove, Adelaide, Australia, was conned out of $600 (around £310) worth of food after an individual asked for an enormous order. The prankster asked for pizzas, chiko rolls, and calamari, before vanishing from the pizza shop and leaving the feast behind. The staff at Aroma Pizza had spent ages preparing dozens of boxes of unclaimed food.

"The callous individual disappeared without a trace, leaving the owners with a mountain of unused fare and a heavy heart," a local children's charity said. Instead of throwing away all the food, the staff at Aroma Pizza House decided to donate it to children and families at risk.

The owner of the restaurant Benkil Sheh began calling charities in a bid to donate the items. The food boxes were delivered by two staff members to Puddle Jumpers Incorporated - a children's charity that is dedicated to helping kids overcome obstacles.

Taking to Facebook, a spokesperson for the charity said: "Amidst this disappointment, the owners showcased unparalleled generosity and compassion. Instead of letting the food go to waste, they made a remarkable decision. Despite their own anguish, they reached out to us and delivered the food to our food hub, ensuring that it didn't go uneaten.

"Their act of kindness speaks volumes about their character and underscores their immense hearts. Despite facing adversity, they chose to spread joy and nourishment to those in need."

"We were so happy and always want to help someone who in need," Aroma Pizza House said in response to the post.

The restaurant's kind act was applauded by a number of supporters after pictures were shared of staff delivering the food. Taking to Facebook, one individual wrote: "Well done Aroma Pizza, so sorry that had to happen to you. What wonderful generosity you have, I will be sending your name around, so all the people in your community can head there to support you."

A former Puddle Jumpers worker said: "Thank you guys for your generosity to think of others even though you have been hard done by yourselves. I have worked at Puddle Jumpers Food Hub so I have seen first hand how much the people who come in appreciate the food. I can imagine some of the kids faces when they are offered pizza for dinner it would be a real treat."

A third added: "I hope your act of kindness is well rewarded, with an abundance of new and loyal customers." Another said: "Sad that someone did that, so glad they helped feed others. Acts of kindness are always a reward."
