Getting your hair cut by someone new can be risky - and one expert has shared the red flags to look out for with a new stylist.

Trusting someone to cut your hair is a big deal, the wrong haircut can make the next few weeks a little embarassing while you wait for your locks to grow back, and now hair expert Danielle Palompo has shared the signs to look out for that shows your hairdresser may not have your best intentions.

Danielle, from Edinburgh, regualarly shares hair tips and tricks online, and has now shared some hairdresser "red flags".

The first sign the 32-year-old shared was that hair people should avoid stylists if they don't "offer an online or in person consultation." Speaking about what you hope to achieve with your hair, especially if you're trusting someone new is important and so you can make sure you're on the same page.

This also links to her second red flag - not being asked about your hair history, and the third being not being offered any home care advice once you've had your appointment. Danielle, who also co-hosts a parenting podcast Keep It Casual said another red flag is if you're having your hair lightened and if your stylist doesn't ask if you want to add a toner.

The final red flag and a sure sign your hairdresser doesn't have your best interests is if you leave your appointment unhappy. It's no secret a trip to the hairdressers can turn out to be pretty expensive, so leaving unhappy is something no one wants to endure.

People agreed with Danielles claims, as one fellow hairdresser commented: "Omg I can't even imagine NOT doing a consultation prior to booking anyone in!" While another echoed this and said: "I'm in East Tennessee and require a consult before booking, people act like I'm crazy and ridiculous for doing that."

However one TikToker revealed: "I've never had a consultation and badly need a good hairdresser just now but I'm so scared because of bad experiences," to which Danielle advised: "Really! Even an online consultation will do!..just makes sure your both on the same page more than anything!
