Kym Marsh and Jamie Lomas proved they are very much friendly exes as they came together to celebrate their daughter Polly’s 13th birthday.
The big day arrived amid a heartbreaking anniversary with Kym reflected on the loss of her baby boy, who died 15 years ago. But the youngster becoming a teen was the perfect distraction as the extended family all got together for a big dinner.
Kym, who shared a series of photos showing Polly growing up, says he has a good relationship with Jamie and they beamed for the camera as they sat around the table. She even tagged him into the group snap as she gave a big 'happy birthday' to Polly on Sunday.
But it wasn't a perfect photo - and perhaps the guest of honour was the one taking the snap. Kym went on: "Beautiful night with beautiful people celebrating a beautiful girl! Although she didn't want to be in the photo!" Before Jamie, Kym was married to actor Jack Ryder for seven years and the former Corrie star remarried for a third time, to Scott Ratcliff, back in 2021 but the pair announced their split a year ago.
Kym previously told the Mirror: "We have a very good relationship, Jamie and I. Polly has a good relationship with her dad. We have nothing bad to say about each other." Jamie and Kym tragically lost their son Archie moments after his birth back in 2009, two years before the birth of their daughter.
Waterloo Road's Angela Griffin says raising teens in today's world is 'horrific'Kym and her family's heartbreak was increased immensely by the fact Archie's life was never formally acknowledged because babies born before 24 weeks were not entitled to a birth certificate. “I was allowed to cremate him, but I wasn’t allowed a certificate and I couldn’t understand that,” revealed Kym to OK!. “Not having a birth or death certificate made it feel like he never existed and like it never happened.
"Some people might think it’s just a piece of paper and what difference does it make? But it makes all the difference to us because these are our children and they matter to us, they matter to our families and they should matter to the world.”
A recent change in the law means parents who lose a child before 24 weeks can now have their grief recognised with a baby loss certificate. The government review came after almost a decade of tireless campaigning by Mariposa Trust founders and CEOs Andy and Zoe Clark-Coates MBE, with support from long-term ambassador Kym.
She opened up on her loss as she attended the annual Mariposa Ball, partnered with OK!, which is held to honour the country’s baby bereavement heroes. The star revealed her son has always been a part of the family and they mark his birthday each year.
Kym and Jamie's daughter Polly, who was born two years after Archie has been brought up knowing about her big brother. Kym, who also has two older children David, 28, and Emilie, 26, continued: “He’s part of our lives and through all the special moments, we remember and celebrate him.
"We never got to know what kind of little boy he would have been, but we talk about him. My grandchildren talk about him – they know who Archie is and what a significant part of our family he is. Polly has only ever known him as her big brother and she’ll often say, ‘I wish he was here, he’d stick up for me!’ And I tell her, ‘Yes, of course he would.’”
