Kym Marsh has revealed her dad's tear-jerking response when she asked him if he wanted to be buried with her son, Archie.
The Hear'Say star, 47, tragically lost her son, who she shares with Jamie Lomas, just minutes after he was born, 15 years ago. In more heartache for the family, Kym's dad, Dave, died in January following a lengthy battle with prostate cancer.
Recalling an emotional conversation she had with her parent, shortly before he died, aged 78, Kym shared the heartbreaking time she spoke to him about Archie. She revealed: "When we realised that dad wasn’t going to get any better, I asked him how he’d feel about [being buried with Archie] and he was delighted. He said he was happy to go on his journey with Archie, so that’s what we’ve done. We’ve done it as a family and it absolutely felt like the right thing to do.”
Dave's death has left a massive hole in Kym's family, but she says knowing that Archie will finally be laid to rest with his grandad, will give her some comfort. Revealing she’s been unable to part with Archie's ashes, keeping them in an engraved box, she shared with OK! magazine: “I felt that there had to be a time when I let Archie rest. Fifteen years is a long time to carry his ashes around."
After the loss of their son, former couple Kym and Jamie went onto have daughter, Polly, now 13. In a heartfelt admission, the Coronation Street star, says her dad told her Archie was the image of his sister as she explained: "My dad was the last person to hold him – he put him into his coffin and he studied his face really hard. And when Polly was born, he was adamant that she was the same child. He said, ‘I’m telling you now, it’s the same face.'"
Waterloo Road's Angela Griffin says raising teens in today's world is 'horrific'Kym announced that her father had died earlier this year after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2021. At the time, she posted a picture of herself and Dave on Instagram and wrote: "For the first time in my life….I have no words. I love you Dad. Always and forever. Rest easy Pops. Goodnight god bless."
Following Dave's death, Kym sent a message into Morning Live to be read out to viewers. It said: "I and my family want to thank Morning Live viewers for the unwavering support they have shown to dad and us since his cancer diagnosis. He was extremely proud of the work he did with the show to raise awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of getting checked. He wanted to try and break the taboo and he was so happy when he received letters and he had so many from viewers who had seen his story and as a result, had visited their doctor."
