SALLY Nugent and Carol Kirkwood were left grimacing over a disgusting story from a BBC Breakfast viewer.

Sally, 53, was fronting the flagship Beeb show alongside Jon Kay, 54, this morning.

Fan-favourite Carol Kirkwood was on weather duties as she brought viewers the latest forecast.

But as she wrapped her BBC Breakfast report Sally ordered her to stay put to listen to a story Jon wanted to read out.

The dad-of-three than began telling a viewer story, saying: "My husband was driving home from work and spotted a hedgehog in the middle of the road.

"He didn't want to hurt it so he stopped his car, holding up a huge line of traffic on a small rural road.

"He got out, approached the hedgehog and discovered it was actually a small pile of horse poo."

As Sally and Carol gasped in shock a Jon concluded the story by revealing the man was so embarrassed he picked up the horse poo and put it over his head and all the drivers started applauding him.

"What did he do with his hands," asked Sally, before adding: "Did he put his hands back on the steering wheel?!"

The story came after it was reported how a wildlife rescue took in a baby hedgehog that later turned out to be just a bobble for a hat.

Meanwhile, earlier this week Jon Kay returned to the iconic red sofa after an unexplained absence.

The 54-year-old had been missing from a number of shows - including Monday - as fans asked if he'd 'called in sick again'.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer.
