Jumpsuits are going to be big this spring - here are our favourites

"Twenty twenty four is going to be the year of the jumpsuit" was a statement I heard one TikTokker declare at the beginning of the year - and it's one I can certainly jump straight on board with as an avid lover of jumpsuits.

The timeless classic all-in-one style that has been seen time and again on catwalks and the high street began as a garment for practicality and was used by parachuters to jump from planes (as stated by Vogue) in 1919 but was later adopted by fashion designers like Schiaparelli and Bonnie Cashin and had the seal of approval from Elvis himself.

A hundred years on, it's still beloved as a statement that is easy to dress up and down - and one we, in The Mirror's fashion team, love - especially in a fabric that's massive this season: denim. And it seems we're not the only ones as search for 'jumpsuit' have skyrocketed in the last few weeks by 133 per cent, reports by fashion retailer New Look state.

Nobody's Child Fearne Cotton Mid Wash Denim Jumpsuit - £79

Best jumpsuits for Spring from River Island, Nobody's Child and moreFearne Cotton is bang on trend with this stunning, sustainably made denim jumpsuit (Nobody's Child)

This jumpsuit has only just launched on Nobody's Child's website but it's one fashion fans are snapping up fast as the style and fit is absolutely stunning for the spring season. With thick straps - that can be worn multiple ways, straight or criss-cross - a fitted square neck bodice and gorgeous high-waisted wide legs, it's a statement piece that can be worn on its own, over a t-shirt and with sandals, trainers or heels for a more dressy look. While the thought of a fitted denim bodice makes you feel quite claustrophobic, this piece designed in partnership with style icon Fearne Cotton features a detail that'll solve that - an elasticated shirred back, ensuring total comfort throughout the day.

I love the colour of this jumpsuit too, the mid-wash is very 70s and it's a great way to brighten up your look, even if you just have a white tee and trainers.

Basically, it's a garment that is easy to chuck on will look stylish with little to no effort.

Eve's favourite: Monsoon's Harper denim jumpsuit blue - £85

Best jumpsuits for Spring from River Island, Nobody's Child and moreThe detailing on this Monsoon jumpsuit is gorgeous (Eve Rowlands)
Best jumpsuits for Spring from River Island, Nobody's Child and moreThis jumpsuit is so versatile and can be worn under a jumper and with your favourite trainers (Eve Rowlands)

Fashion and beauty writer Eve Rowlands loves her Monsoon jumpsuit and says about it: "There's something about wearing a jumpsuit that makes me feel powerful but also quite playful and creative. Giving off a chic '70s' vibe, all-in-one jumpsuits are just cool. But a denim jumpsuit? Even better. And one that's soft, supple, comfortable, breathable, light, flattering, versatile and flattering.... better still.

As soon as I put on this Harper Jumpsuit from Monsoon, I was instantly in love. Firstly the design is impeccable and it's a beautiful piece in my wardrobe. But secondly, when I stepped into it and fastened it, it wasn't so tight that my arms or legs couldn't move (I've been there) but was fitted enough to give your figure a lovely silhouette with its belted tie. It's a unique statement piece that can easily be dressed up with heels or down with trainers.

The collar is slightly stiff, making it a great feature to utilise if wearing a jumper over the top to keep warm (as pictured), that continues the look smoothly. It's fastened with a gorgeous set of subtle brown and beige buttons that contrast the deep indigo colouring of the jumpsuit wonderfully too. Another feature I love on this jumpsuit is the gold yellow stitching on the edges, which add a sophistication and artiness to the garment. The legs are wide making moving about in the jumpsuit a breeze and getting in and out if it easy as pie.

All in all, if I'm not wearing my Ruby or River Island jeans, you'll find me in this jumpsuit, day or night."

Bethan's favourite: River Island Blue Zip Up Denim Jumpsuit - £65

Fashion and beauty writer Bethan is a jumpsuit convert and said about this River Island piece: "I’ve been making a conscious effort to be a little more adventurous with my wardrobe of late, and have been trying to avoid my go-to black straight leg jeans that have dominated my style for the last decade, and lean more into blue hues and different denim cuts, like midi skirts, blouses and, of course, the jumpsuit.

Popularised in the 70s, the denim jumpsuit has remained a key statement fashion piece throughout the decades, and will remain that way for decades to come. I’ve tried a number of styles over the years but none of them have really flattered me until I came across this one from River Island and fell in love.

Best jumpsuits for Spring from River Island, Nobody's Child and moreThe River Island denim jumpsuit features a zip front and adjustable waist

Made from 100 per cent cotton, it feels lightweight and breathable when on, which means you can wear it through the summer months too, especially for those cooler evenings. What’s more is that it’s a zip-fastening, making it really convenient for throwing on for effortless styling, and doesn’t require any fuss if you need to go to the loo.

Moreover, the elasticated waist makes it really comfortable to wear, and there are poppers at the waist so you can extend the waist if you’re feeling bloated, or are a little between sizes, or can pull it in to cinch the waist slightly, offering a more fitted look.

It’s got deep, zip pockets at the thighs, though I will say it does ruin the look if you stuff your phone, keys and lipstick in them, so it’s best to leave them empty and take a bag instead.

I’ve had a lot of fun experimenting with different ways to wear it, and have found my Damson Madder Tilly Gilet to be the ultimate layering piece for this denim number, but equally, it’s one of those wardrobe staples that speaks for itself - you really can just throw on some silver cowboy boots and go."

Marks and Spencer's Ecru Denim Belted Ankle Grazer Jumpsuit - £59

Best jumpsuits for Spring from River Island, Nobody's Child and moreThis is a gorgeous alternative coloured denim jumpsuit (Marks & Spencer)

Wearing an ecru coloured all-in-one jumpsuit is a bold choice but one which support whole-heartedly as a statement that'll have heads turning. This one from M&S is made from stylish denim and features long sleeves and a three-quarter leg. The legs feature quirky cargo-style pockets while the utility-esque belt cinches in the waist, making this garment super flattering.

With a collared neck and button fastening, this jumpsuit can easily be dressed up with some loafers and a handbag or down with some white pumps and a tee underneath. As showcased by the model, it worked wonderfully with the brand's now out of stock quilted bag, for a clean, linear neutral look.

This piece is great if you want a denim jumpsuit but don't quite fancy the blue-wash. Although, if you'd rather that sort of finish, the same style is available in dark denim.
