Following the tragic death of her husband, Kate Garraway shared a heartfelt message on social media with her fans stating that she's looking forward to new beginnings.
The 56-year-old star has made no secret of her struggle to cope since Derek passed away in January after a four-year battle with a series of illnesses on the back of contracting Covid-19. For the first time, instead of maintaining tradition by visiting her aunt, Kate decided to change her Easter plans by working in a tranquil location, while also enjoying time with her two children.
Taking to Instagram, she wrote: "#happyeaster everyone! Usually, we have a mega family egg hunt at my Aunty Lynne’s but this year I am actually working - although in a spectacular location & have brought the kids with me so hard to call t “work”." She added: "Very grateful to be able to have this time and sending love to all who are working today in less glamorous locations - keeping the wheels turning for the rest of us. Hope you find some joy & new hope today & everyday xxx #hope. #newbeginnings #love."
And her fans inundated her post with well wishes. One fan said: "Enjoy it. So well deserved xxx" While another posted: "Happy Easter to you and your lovely family Kate xxx." And a third person penned: "Happy Easter Kate, & to your children & family too! Hope your having a lovely weekend xx."
Kate recently revealed that she was hospitalised amid Derek's health battles, which cost a staggering £16,000 a month to care for him. The pressure of coping with Derek's severe illnesses meant Kate had to seek treatment for her own mental and physical health, as things started to take its toll on her.
Good Morning Britain's Laura Tobin looks incredible in revealing dressIn her documentary, which covers Derek's health battles, Kate's good friend shared her concern that the Good Morning host could end up back in hospital. Her pal said: "Kate was on her way here, and she had pains in her chest and threw up over herself in the car. It was just that moment of 'Christ, even the woman that we thought could go on forever."
Kate was targeted by online trolls for going back to work soon after Derek's passing as they felt she wasn't giving herself enough time to grieve. In the third and final documentary documenting Derek's Covid journey, viewers saw Derek speak to the camera. He said: "I am Derek Draper. I want people to hear my story." The documentary also delved into Derek's work in politics, his early relationship with Kate and his health during the Covid pandemic.
