Britain's Got Talent's Tom Ball admits major body transformation was 'painful'

Britain’s Got Talent star Tom Ball says it has been ‘painful’ changing his body after undergoing an impressive fitness transformation.

The 26-year-old singer was a contestant on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent during the fifteenth season in 2022 where he landed in second place behind overall winner Axel Blake - a 35-year-old comedian from London. Fans of Tom and BGT might no longer recognise him as he has put himself through a gruelling workout regime to transform his body.

The star - whose debut album, titled Curtain Call, was released this month - decided to get himself in shape after marrying now wife, Hannah Burtenshaw, in October 2022. But he says his transformation was far from easy - but admits he got “used to” the pain of working out with the help of a personal trainer.

Discussing his impressive transformation, Tom said: "At the start it was painful, but it kind of always is then you slowly get used to it. You find things you enjoy about the gym and that's the one thing I struggled with when I was old enough to be going to the gym but not recently.”

He continued, in his interview with the Daily Star: “When I used to go to the gym by myself, I would just lift the weights and use the running machine and I hate that. It's monotonous, there's nothing enjoyable for me about that. But my PT quickly realised that there were things that I might enjoy and that was boxing. Like physical things."

Tom explained that he decided to get in shape after enjoying his honeymoon - but his transformation was more about 'feeling good' rather than simply losing weight. Hiring help to get himself whipped into shape was a key component for the talent show star.

He explained: "I got a personal trainer who was instrumental in my change and the change that I went through which was gym, lots of gym and also eating the right foods. And also the type of foods in moderation. So I worked on that for a good four months solid, focusing on that but always in mind the aim of our time back on BGT being the relaunch of that."

It's not just his body that Tom has transformed - his fortunes have changed too in the time since he first appeared on the BGT stage. Earlier this month he shared a selfie on Instagram alongside a reflective post where he acknowledged his pride at the way his life has been changed by his fame.

He wrote: "After what has been the most overwhelming and incredible week with the start of my debut UK Tour I'm reflecting back on the past 2 years... This is something I talk about during my show, so I thought I'd post.

"After an incredible experience on @bgt finishing runner up, my first opportunity came from a man who has inspired me since the age of 9. Listening to Les Mis every day after school in the back of my Mum's car was my favourite thing ever. I used to memorise every single lyric and sing along with 'one man' in particular... 2 years on and having travelled the World, signed a record deal, releasing my own album (24th May) & standing on my own stage for my #CurtainCall UK Tour, singing a song I did age 9 in the back of that car! #fullcirclemoment #BringHimhome."

He added: "We have come so far and I'm so happy. This is an exciting week with lots to tell you... So much love and thanks to Michael for your kindness, encouragement, and inspiration."
