THIS is the shocking moment a furious lorry driver shoves a pensioner to the ground in heavy traffic on a dual carriageway.

Mark King, 63, saw red after Robert Venus, 78, clipped his vehicle's wing mirror as he merged onto the A2 near Gravesend, Kent.

He had been sitting in a long queue of traffic after roadworks caused three lanes to funnel into one in January earlier this year.

Mr Venus indicated to get into the same lane, but clipped King's wing mirror as he made the manoeuvre.

King can be heard angrily shouting towards the pensioner in audio from his dash cam.

He then gets out the lorry to confront the elderly driver.

Mr Venus also exited his vehicle and, following a brief exchange, King is seen pushing him with both hands.

The footage shows Mr Venus losing his footing and stumbling back into the open door of his black pickup truck.

The pensioner suffered an injury to his back in the fall.

King, 63, has now been fined more than £400 after admitting assault at Medway Magistrates' Court.

Rajni Prashar, prosecuting, told the court: "There was slow-moving traffic and his artic [lorry] vehicle was in lane three.

"There was a gap and Mr Venus indicated to the driver of the vehicle he was moving into the lane in front of him."

Ms Prashar said that, although Mr Venus had clipped the wing mirror of King's vehicles, no damage had been caused.

She added: "It was then the victim stepped out of his vehicle," she continued.

"[After being pushed], Mr Venus fell back and almost missed the car door... [he] was injured."

Mr Venus suffered sharp pain from the impact and had to take painkillers and visit hospital due to his injuries.

He has also found it difficult to sleep since the incident, the court heard.

King, from Polgate in East Sussex, admitted assaulting Mr Venus, with the offence aggravated by the fact his victim was elderly and vulnerable.

Lewis Holloway, defending King, said he regretted what had happened.

He added: "[King] was not very happy that particular evening and he had let a number of people in the lane.

"Mr Venus tried to get in and [King] carried on driving, but Mr Venus then swerved into the lane at an angle and hit [King's] vehicle.

"[King] got out and pushed him. He should not have done it, but I think it can be dealt with by way of a conditional discharge or a fine; it was simply a push."

Mr Holloway added that King had no previous convictions for violence and that he was not working when he appeared in court last month.

But King was told his actions were unnecessary and was fined £120.

He has also been ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £48 and £85 court costs.

King was additionally ordered to pay Mr Venus £150 compensation.
