It was a surprise to precisely no one that Kim Kardashian's Met Gala outfit sent tongues wagging on Sunday night, with the reality TV star known for her outrageous gowns and controversial choices.
And despite gasps of "where did you put your internal organs?!" over her extremely cinched-in waist, there was one small detail that appeared to eclipse her dazzling metallic Margiela masterpiece. In addition to her silver sequinned corset gown was an unusual grey cardigan draped below her shoulders and over her chest as she made her way down the red carpet.
It was undoubtedly an unusual choice for Kim, whose choice of sweater appeared to hide parts of the gorgeous detailing of the embroidered corset design, which faded into a skirt made of chain flowers. Kim wore her bleached white blonde hair in casual waves, showing her dark roots, as it cascaded down her shoulders. She also opted for a more natural make-up look, avoiding eyeliner as she went for a nude lip and toned-down lashes.
But many were perplexed by her choice of cardigan over such a glam dress, particularly after she once said that she would be prepared to wee herself at the event if she needed to. Back in 2019, Kim wore her famous skintight latex beaded Thierry Mugler gown that was so tight, she couldn’t even sit down during dinner. The gown - which took eight months to make - was carefully designed so it looked as though she was dripping wet and was adorned with raindrop-esque crystals.

So why the cardigan? Some have suggested that she may have been covering up an outfit malfunction. Among them was Lorraine's Ross King, who said: " Kim Kardashian - everyone of course talking about that unbelievably tiny waist. She couldn't even get up the stairs, apparently. But then had a funny little cardigan at the top, so was there some sort of malfunction?"

"Kim Kardashian is definitely giving had an outfit malfunction and threw on a sweater but she still ate," another wrote.
Kim didn't appear to allude to the reason behind her cardigan as she shared a social media post, simply sharing photos of herself on the night on Instagram. However, as well as fans pointing out the unusual accompaniment, they were left divided over her choice to show ofd her body's extreme proportions.
One commented: "I love you and respect you so much as a mother and entrepreneur, but your waist being cinched in so tight does not look healthy or send the right message. Not that my 2 cents matters in the grand scheme of your you life, just had to say it." While another wrote: "I respect the branding beast she is as well as the style but the waist is scary."
