Nicole Brown Simpson told friends and family her husband OJ Simpson would kill her, and predicted he would use a knife.

Thirty years after she was found almost decapitated outside her Los Angeles home, they are still convinced that he did. German-born Nicole’s 1994 gruesome murder hit headlines around the world and sparked one of the most high-profile celebrity trials of all time.

Former American football star OJ Simpson was arrested for her killing and that of her friend Ron Goldman, 25, but was famously acquitted by a jury. Nicole’s loved ones are also convinced OJ confessed to the crime during her funeral.

The four-part documentary The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson features never-before-seen home videos and interviews with those who knew her best including her sisters Denise, Dominique, and Tanya and her best friends, reality stars Kris Jenner and Faye Resnick. And those closest to her are in no doubt OJ, who died of cancer in April aged 76, was her killer.

Close friend D’Anne Purcilly says: "I knew OJ had a knife collection, he was very into knives. It made me nervous because when they were married there had been a conversation while we were all out for dinner."

"We were making small talk and somebody said, 'What are you afraid of?' OJ’s fear was drowning, Nicole said she had fears of being attacked from behind and being slashed by a knife. A couple of years down the road, she said, ‘D’Anne, you remember that conversation?’"

"She said whenever they had these big fights he would say to her, 'I am going to chop you up in little pieces and bury you and no one will know where you are.'"

On the night she was murdered, Nicole had been out celebrating her daughter Sydney’s dance recital. After returning home and putting her kids to bed, Nicole’s body was later discovered outside her home.

An autopsy revealed she was stabbed seven times and had her throat slashed almost to her spine. Her friend Ron, who had called at her house on an errand, had also been stabbed to death.

OJ was a person of interest and was caught up in a high-speed police chase across Los Angeles. But it was at Nicole’s funeral that her friends and family believed a guilt-ridden OJ confessed to the crime.

Nicole’s friend Robin Greer says: "He just stood over the coffin looking at her saying, 'I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry, Nic, I’m so sorry'. He was just admitting that he did it."

After the funeral he got in the car carrying Nicole’s mother, Juditha Anne Brown, known to friends as Dita. D’Anne says: “Dita turned to him at one point and said, ‘Did you do this?’ He just kept saying over and over, ‘I loved her too much’.”

Nicole’s sisters recall having to deal with OJ being at the funeral. Dominique says: “OJ stopped me, grabbed my hand and took me over to Nicole and I knelt with him in front of my dead sister.”

Denise adds: “We had to get a turtle neck for her because her throat was cut. He f****g almost decapitated her. It was so awful.”

Nicole met OJ when she was 18 and a waitress and they began dating even though he was still married to his first wife Marguerite, who was then pregnant with their daughter Aaren. Pals were unsure about their relationship from the start.

David LeBon, who lived with Nicole, said she came home with the zip of her jeans ripped. He says: "I said to Nicole, 'What happened?' He got a little forceful. I said, 'Why would you let him do that to you? Why on your first date?' was so p***d."

D’Anne added: "David wanted to have a few words and Nicole said, 'No, don’t, I really like him'. She fell in love with him, I think, the first time she met him."

It was thanks to her relationship with OJ that she met Kris Jenner, who was married to famous LA lawyer Robert Kardashian, at the time. Robert and OJ were pals and the women quickly struck up a friendship too.

Kris explains: "Nicole didn’t just befriend everybody, she was really warm and amazing, but you got to know her first, you know, until she really let you in. But when she did, she was super loyal and she was your friend for life."

But it wasn’t long before friends started to become concerned. On New Year’s Eve 1988, Nicole called police after taking a beating from OJ.

Entries from her diary shown in the documentary say she was regularly thrown against walls when OJ lost his temper. The couple eventually split early in 1993 but Nicole’s friends claim OJ was obsessed with her.

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Faye Resnick says: "She always knew he was going to hurt her. OJ was kind of spying on her a lot, because he realised she was becoming happy."

Sobbing Kris says of Nicole’s death: "You never get over losing a friend that way. I think I pack it down so far, deep inside, you know, it’s been 30 years, it’s hard."

Nicole’s friends say they hope the series will shine a light on the "vibrant mother" they loved. Kris said: "She was just so generous, just so willing to give her heart and her time and help anyone who needed it."
