SPRINGWATCH fans were saddened to hear that there will be no Autumnwatch this year.

Chris Packham shared the news while filming the final episode of this spring's series.

Usually the watches are broadcast every spring, autumn and winter as show hosts give the public information about British wildlife through the changing seasons.

As Springwatch came to a close, Michaela Strachan headed out to the countryside with Chris to give viewers an update on some birds' nests they have been monitoring.

They also shared their pine marten discovery, which is an animal that became notable because of its ability to urinate backwards.

After some laughter when Chris made the painful joke that he is going to try that technique at home, Michaela brought up the fact that this was the final episode.

She shared: "I hate to tell you, that has brought us to the end of the show... There's never been a dull moment."

Chris went on to thank everyone who has contributed to the BBC programme this season, saying: "We want to thank everyone here at RSPB and all of the staff, all of the volunteers and all of our partners who have helped with the programme - particularly the scientists that we have rung up in the middle of the night."

He also gave a special mention to fans of the show, adding: "Thank you for all of the photographs, the clips and the questions you have sent in."

The naturalist finally closed the episode by letting viewers know that this was the last watch of the year, and the show won't be back again until 2025.

"We will be coming back for Winterwatch 2025 in January," he shared, "but in the meantime, we want to leave you with some of the most heartwarming, some of the most beautiful, some of the best moments of this extraordinary spring which we've had the privilege of enjoying."

Devastated fans were quick to protest Autumnwatch being taken away from them.

One person begged: "Please BBC bring back Autumn Watch, this content is genuinely what I pay my TV Licence for."

Another irate viewer exclaimed: "We want Springwatch to have its Autumn Watch show back! We cannot wait until 2025!"

A third hit out: "Can't believe we have to wait until January for our next wildlife instalment whoever axed Autumn Watch needs to rethink what the licence payers want. Bring it back! "
