Arne Slot's Feyenoord assistant Sipke Hulshoff has given up on the Euros so that he can join his boss at Liverpool.

Hulshoff has resigned as No 2 to Holland coach Ronald Koeman after it was made clear to him that the Merseysiders would only sign-off on him working alongside Slot at Anfield if he was available for duty from July 1.

It means Liverpool have cleared a major hurdle in building the Dutchman's backroom staff as he prepares to succeed Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.

The Reds have agreed to pay the Rotterdam club an £11million compensation package for Slot. But the 45-year-old told new Kop chief executive Michael Edwards that he wants Hulshoff, second assistant Etienne Reijnen and head of performance Ruben Peeters to also follow him from Holland. And Feyenoord are demanding another £2million pay-off for the trio.

That won't be an issue now that Hulshoff has informed the Dutch FA that he won't be going to the Euros. Koeman has now started the search for a replacement ahead of the tournament in Germany.

Slot gave assurances that he is Anfield-bound last week, saying: “I can’t reveal the details right now, but it is not about my contract.

“There are a combination of factors which is the cause why there is no announcement yet. But don’t worry. It will happen.

“I know I have been saying this every time over the past week, but I do expect that it really is a matter of days now. Some things just need more time.”

Slot is also in the hunt for a new goalkeeping coach after long-serving John Achterberg decided to follow Klopp out of the club. Achterberg is set to take up an offer to work with former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard at Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq.

Klopp will bid an emotional goodbye to Liverpool when he brings the curtain down on his eight-and-a-half-year reign when Wolves visit Anfield on Sunday for the final game of the season.
