Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has confirmed that he plans to follow Jurgen Klopp out of the Anfield exit door this summer.

Adrian, 37, is out of contract next month and after five years of service expects to part ways with the Reds. The Spaniard, who joined Klopp's side on a free transfer from West Ham, has fallen to third place in the pecking order and only made two appearances in the last three seasons.

His most recent outing came in the 2022 Community Shield, as Liverpool beat Manchester City 3-1 to claim one of his five winners' medals earned during his time at club. Now Adrian has his sights set on a return to Spain, having last played in his homeland in 2013 before his move to West Ham, where he spent the next six seasons.

"I would like to return to La Liga after 11 seasons in the Premier League," Adrian confirmed in a recent interview with Mucho Deporte. "It would be the end of a cycle. I'm still ready to compete. I feel very good despite being 37.

"You know that goalkeepers, if you take good care of yourself, if you haven't had any serious injuries lately and you're fine, the daily training gives you that intensity that makes you compete. I think I have a long time left and it's true that I would like to return to La Liga. It has to be a nice, interesting project."

The ex-Real Betis goalkeeper still hasn't held a formal conversation with Liverpool about his impending departure, though, and it's worth noting that second-choice 'keeper Caoimhin Kelleher could leave in the summer transfer window, too. "I haven't sat down with Liverpool yet," Adrian revealed.

"I don't rule out that we could have a pending conversation, but it is true that we will be looking out of the corner of our eye to see what happens in La Liga."

Adrian's finest moment in a Liverpool shirt came during the 2019 European Super Cup penalty shootout, as he saved Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham's effort which won the Reds the match after a 2-2 draw in normal time. Post-match, Klopp described his performance as "incredible."

Adrian wouldn't be the only player leaving Anfield on a free this summer, as team-mates Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara are also set to see their deals expire and subsequently depart. Matip has missed the majority of the campaign with an ACL injury, while Thiago has struggled for fitness.
